The concept of the author-designed Zen Residences & Hotel residential complex is based on the idea of northern architecture with a southern character. According to the project’s architect, Svetozar Andreev, Saint Petersburg calls for the atmosphere of a summer city — filled with light and greenery, characteristic of countries with a warm climate.

This vision gave rise to the concept of an evergreen oasis — a hidden garden in the very heart of Saint Petersburg’s historic center.

The central element of the complex is a green atrium with hanging gardens. Surrounding it are residences, a hotel, penthouses, SPA facilities, and outdoor garden-greenhouses. The vertical volume of the atrium unites all levels of the building, connecting lounge areas, terraces, and residential spaces into a single spatial composition.

Many of the architectural solutions at Zen Residences & Hotel develop ideas that Svetozar Andreev previously explored in his signature Mediterranean villas and hotels across Asia and Latin America. Open-plan layouts, the principle of “floating and flowing space,” flexible interior organization, and the organic integration of nature into the architecture create the atmosphere of a first-class international resort in the historic center of Saint Petersburg.

According to the architect’s concept, the vertical rhythm of the façade continues directly into the interior of the building. The atrium’s internal façades echo the rhythm of the building’s exterior façade, while the garden-greenhouses located at the entrance to the complex find their compositional continuation in the vertical space of the atrium with its hanging gardens.

In Svetozar Andreev’s project, nature becomes an important architectural instrument: green atriums, hanging gardens, and greenhouses are integrated into the spatial composition of the complex, connecting its interior and exterior spaces and creating a unique environment in which the northern urban context meets the aesthetics of a southern resort.
