In the historic center of St. Petersburg, on the embankment of the Malaya Neva (Dobrolyubova Ave., 18A), a project is underway that resolves the classic dilemma of a northern city: how to preserve the strict historical context while simultaneously introducing a constant sense of warmth and greenery.
Zen Garden is an 11-storey apartment complex with 5* hotel service. The central compositional element is a multi-level green atrium - the core of the garden system placed along the perimeter and on the roof of the complex. This forms an internal “evergreen oasis” protected from the cold and urban noise.
The building’s architecture is permeated by this idea: hanging gardens on balconies, cascading terraces, and panoramic glazing create a sense of continuous contact with nature even during the gloomiest months. The façade is resolved through a system of vertical lamellas and a zigzag rhythm that simultaneously ensures apartment privacy and delicately integrates into the surrounding development of the Petrograd Side.
The project’s author, architect Svetozar Andreev, describes it as “northern architecture with a southern character”- a minimalist, restrained shell that conceals a rich internal program inside.
Public spaces include a 25-meter swimming pool, SPA complex, signature restaurants, and rooftop terraces with views over the water. Apartment layouts (from 65 to 230+ m²) are designed with an emphasis on non-standard volumes, double-height spaces, and personalized finishes.
Zen Garden demonstrates how a modern premium residential object can become not just a building, but a microclimatic and psychological refuge in a metropolis with a harsh climate.
